Many heeling errors including forging, lagging, and heeling wide are the result of the dog not understanding “position”. Reminding the dog to move back or move forward while heeling doesn’t prevent the dog from losing position in the first place. In this workshop we will teach your dog where to be and how to stay there. They will understand to keep their shoulder in line with your left leg. It’s taught as a fun game that the dogs enjoy. This method is very concrete and clear. And clarity creates confidence! Once they understand position, heeling gets tighter and more accurate without losing animation or attitude. When dogs maintain position, they respond more quickly to your cues to halt and turn. They will understand how to maintain position throughout the Figure 8. You can teach position to young dogs learning how to heel. If your dog already knows how to heel, you can add the position game to fix common heeling problems.
