Course Details
Many of us want dogs that exhibit higher arousal when working. A dog that works with laser focus, speed, and animation — all that style and energy is so exciting! But getting there is more challenging than we often realize. When arousal isn’t channeled properly, it leaks, showing up as vocalization, anticipation, lack of engagement, split focus, and poor impulse control. Add any sort of pressure or challenge and things can quickly spiral out of control. Many people assume that adding control will decrease arousal, but the opposite is often true.
In this workshop, we’ll talk about managing arousal so it channels into work in a productive, purposeful way. We’ll start by examining daily life skills and routines, because behaviors in everyday life absolutely carry over into competition—both positively and negatively. This is the foundation of our relationship, where we begin teaching impulse control and focus. We’ll also discuss the mindful use of reinforcement strategies and connection to optimize arousal, along with practical techniques and tricks to help you manage and channel it effectively.
With consistency and clarity, you can have a dog who works in high arousal while maintaining focus and concentration. This workshop will benefit dogs in all sports.
