Course Details

You’ve got the knowledge, you’ve got the experience, and you’ve got your ethics all figured out. You quote Pavlov in casual conversations, you’ve got a library full of FDSA classes, and years of experience volunteering at the local shelter. You can chop up a hotdog in under 30 seconds, and the timing of your click is impeccable. What else do you need to train dogs for a living?

This workshop talks about a crucial skill set many of us are missing when we first start out as professional trainers: the art of relating to your clients. How do you put yourself into their shoes, establish a relationship, and empower them to reach their training goals? How do you get them to train, make progress, and have fun along the way?

Class Syllabus:

  • Explaining vs. coaching: get your clients training quickly
  • Whose class is it anyway?
  • The big picture
  • Developing client buy-in
  • Your professional authority
  • Respect, empathy, and listening
  • Addressing delicate topics
  • Remain positive
  • Evaluating progress

Caden Cristopher (Chrissi Schranz)Instructor: Caden Cristopher (Chrissi Schranz)

Caden has been fond of dogs of all sizes, shapes and personalities for as long as they can think - especially the so called difficult ones.  After training the dachshund of their early teenage years in traditional ways at their local obedience club, they learned about clicker training and got hooked on motivational methods ...
