B3008: Using Play and Games to Teach the Skill of Arousal Modulation

Course Details

3 WEEK CLASS - Do you have a dog with "big feelings"? Arousal isn’t good or bad—it’s just energy. The challenge is that easily stimulated dogs often don't know how to regulate their arousal, which shows up as lost focus, impulsivity, or trouble settling.  In this session, you'll learn that managing arousal is a highly teachable skill. Instead of just suppressing excitement, we will use a specific toolkit of play and self-control games to teach your dog how to shift gears - both up and down.

In this course, you'll learn to treat arousal regulation as a highly teachable skill—arousal is not something to suppress, but something to shape. Using a toolkit of play and self-control games, you'll teach your dog how to ramp up, shift focus, and come back down so they can think clearly. These games will give your dog the skills to navigate their emotions in sports, training, and everyday life.

We will play different types of games with our dogs, with an emphasis on having fun, setting us and our dogs up for success, and sharing a lot of laughs!

Teaching Approach:

Lectures are released weekly, with instructions provided in both written format (bullet points and steps) and video demonstrations.

Each week includes targeted exercises and homework assignments designed to build specific skills, alongside lectures covering key concepts. Exercises build on each other throughout the course.

I'm highly flexible and happy to adjust your homework to suit your specific needs. My priority is helping you and your dog get the most out of our time together, with an understanding of the process so you can continue progressing after class ends.
