Course Details
We’ve all been there. We are in the ring and our dog’s arousal is too high or low and we can’t do anything about it. We try everything we can think of in the moment, but it doesn’t work. We leave the ring frustrated and discouraged. In this workshop we will discuss how to read your dog’s arousal level in training. We will discuss how to help your dog maintain an optimal arousal level while training. I will show you how to teach your dog an “up” cue and a “calming” cue. Once your dog fully understands the cues, you can incorporate them into your trial routine. When I am in the ring, I am constantly reading and adjusting my dog’s arousal level. I use the time from “exercise finished” to “ready” to provide my dog with the support they need for optimal focus and performance. And you can too!

I have been training and competing for several decades in a variety of sports including Hunt Tests, Field Trials, Nosework, Agility and Rally. My first love has always been competition obedience. I have been fortunate to win the AKC National Obedience Championship four times with three different dogs. (Click here for full bio and to view Petra's upcoming courses)
