Course Details
When a dog makes an error, we are often not sure what caused it. Especially when it happens in the ring. Sometimes we think we know. But our attempts to fix the problem are unsuccessful. Figuring out the root cause of the error has a tremendous impact on the solution. An error caused by pressure would be handled differently than an error caused by lack of fluency or by chaining. In this workshop we will look at how to deconstruct errors in a methodical, objective way. Discovering the root cause an error will give us the tools to fix it quickly and effectively. We will look at breaking the exercise down so we can focus on the piece that’s problematic without adversely affecting the rest of the chain. Handling errors this way results in clear communication which creates confident dogs in training and in the ring.

I have been training and competing for several decades in a variety of sports including Hunt Tests, Field Trials, Nosework, Agility and Rally. My first love has always been competition obedience. I have been fortunate to win the AKC National Obedience Championship four times with three different dogs. (Click here for full bio and to view Petra's upcoming courses)
