Course Details
All dogs are different which means they learn differently. One training method cannot be applied across the board. To understand how your dog learns, you need to be objective. You must be able to read what your dog is telling you. We are often so caught up in the process, we aren’t listening. Or we misinterpret what they say based on preconceived ideas and beliefs. The more dogs I train, the more I understand the importance of reading your dog and adjusting your training to the individual.
In this workshop we will analyze how your dog learns. We will determine the best communication system for them. We will look at things like: What are the optimal number of repetitions. How often should you train and for how long. How to break behaviors down. What is the best way to handle errors for this unique dog. Determining if your dog learns best with luring, shaping, or offering…and more! You will learn how to read and listen to your dog, objectively. When you understand how your dog learns you can develop an optimal training program.

Instructor: Petra FordPetra (she/her) graduated from Rutgers School of Health Related Professions 17 years ago with a degree in physical therapy and has experience working with an extremely varied caseload including pediatric through geriatric clients with a vast range of diagnoses.
