Course Details
In agility, courses rarely require the same speed from start to finish. The goal is for dogs to learn how to power through, fast flowing lines and then transition seamlessly into more technical sequences without losing speed or accurancy.
In this class we will work on skills that help dogs confidently shift gears between extension and collection. Through a variety of exercises and short sequences, you and your dog will develop a better understanding of commitment, and efficient turning skills, while still prioritizing speed!
This class is designed to improve your dog's understanding while helping you create smoother, more efficient transitions during course work. So when you go from speed lines to technical transitions, you have the ability to get both extension and collection "on demand". Perfect for teams looking to gain more control, without sacrificing speed!
If you have a lower drive dog, this is great to help build speed and if you have a high drive dogs, it will give you the tools to handle the fast transitions.
Press the gas, dogs GOES, tap the brake, the dog responds! That is the goal!
Teaching Approach:
I am a firm believer in training the dog in front of you. So while we will start out with a set of things to teach, the dog ultimately drives the path to how we get there. If there are modifications that need to be made to a skill, that is what we do. There is no one size fits all and I do not expect your dog to fit into a box. Working with you and your dog in the best way to help you develop the skills is the #1 goal, how we get there with each team can be very individual!
Conversations back and forth between the instructor and students is very important, providing a great learning experience, tailored to your individual team needs.
Written assignments will be released on the first day of each new week. With videos to show the method as well as written instructions.
Feedback is given with time stamps to show the specific part of the video that the feedback is referring to. Highlighting both GOOD things the team is doing and also areas to improve.
There is a TA for this class and Valera is super helpful with students. She is great at troubleshooting and adapting methods to each team.
