3 WEEK CLASS - Is your dog barking at you, demanding that you get that treat out of your pocket NOW? Easily frustrated, skyrocketing into arousal and unable to think about anything but the food in your hand?
Or, are they easily distracted? Looking everywhere but at you, sniffing the ground, and wandering away?
Or... both?
And what is up with all these marker cues that everyone is using?
Sniff, scatter, Get it, Yes, etc… What is the point? 20 ways to deliver food, really? What happened to using Yes? Or a clicker?
I teach a lot of people. Sport, pet, force free, positive only, balanced, whatever you like to call yourself. (I call myself a dog trainer these days!) And no matter what problem you come to me with, the first thing I want you to show me is clean mechanics, clean communication and clarity for your dog. That begins with teaching reinforcement cues/how to deliver said reinforcement, and then we can start with the sexy sport skills or life recalls, or dog -dog reactivity, etc…
Reinforcement is the most important part of teaching skills and clarity around how to earn that treat is soothing for frustrated, stressed out and easily distracted dogs. In this 3 week class, I’ll walk you through various marker cues, why we might want to use different cues for different treat collection for our dogs, and why that matters when you are trying to teach a recall, or fancy heeling or anything, really. I’ll talk about how you need to build behaviors with the correct arousal and the correct movement that strengthens the behavior. No more trying to
build a calm relaxed down stay with a dog who expects to chase a treat at any moment!
In addition, you can use these marker cues to “ask” if you have your dog’s brain in challenging locations. I like to see if my dog can hear their reinforcement cues before I’m asking for fancy sports behaviors or a recall around wildlife.
And best of all- This class is SO FUN! Playing, eating, all the reinforcement things!
People who will benefit the most from this course are new trainers, pet owners, trainers with lots of book experience but not a lot of hands on, trainers getting into dogs sports for the first time and of course, trainers who want to know more about Location Specific Marker cues. Dogs that will do best in this class are ones that will eat food in your home location (house)!
