Jennifer Henion- Water Cheater to Water Honesty
Date: Thursday, May 8th, 2025
Time: 3pm Pacific Time (Click here for time at FDSA (Pacific Time).
Fee: $19.95 USD
When a hunting sport dog runs around water to get a retrieve, you often hear moans and giggles. The word "cheater" gets tossed around by the onlookers. But when a dog takes a beautiful straight line through the ponds to get their bird or bumper, everyone cheers! "Oh wow, that was a good Honest line!" In hunting dog sport competitions, judges really want to see dogs take that nice straight line into and through the water. But the truth is that dogs instinctually want to take the fastest, driest route to the retrieve! Swimming slows them down and makes the dogs vulnerable. No matter how much a dog loves water and swimming, they will still try and run the bank or avoid the pond altogether when it comes to chasing down a retrieve that landed on the other side. So how do you train your dog to go straight into the water where directed, and keep going straight, for a retrieve? How do you train this so it's the dog's choice and so the dog will do it automatically??? There is a way! And it is a positive training way! That's what we will cover in this webinar! There are two big keys that unlock water honesty training. 1. Building Value for getting in it. 2. Shaping the dog to get in where we want, and keep going. When you have those two keys in place, your dog has super clarity about what you want him to do - and what not to do! Then you'll be able to expand all of your water training to include every typical water challenge that sport judges put in front of you. This is a proven approach that will make you look amazing! And you'll be surprised how easy it really is!

Bronagh Daly- Dealing with Dog Distractions in Agility
Date: Thursday, May 8th, 2025
Time: 6pm Pacific Time (Click here for time at FDSA (Pacific Time).
Fee: $19.95 USD
Does your dog get distracted by other dogs in their agility environment? Do they get amped up when other dogs are running? Or do they have a tough time focusing on you as you're preparing for your run? Maybe they struggle with having another dog in the ring either as you're entering or exiting? Or perhaps they get stressed by other dogs barking in the trial or class environment? If any of those describes your dog, this is the webinar for you! At an agility trial or even class, there can be a LOT going on which can cause our dogs to have a lot of feelings, both positive and sometimes more negative. And generally, all of the other dogs in the environment are also having a lot of feelings, which makes it all the more challenging to have a calm and focused working brain. To be really successful in agility, our dogs need to either tune out all of the feelings that the other dogs are displaying or at least learn to successfully split their focus. And that's exactly what this webinar is going to be focusing on. We will be going through all of the common scenarios in which you and your dog might bump into other dogs at an agility trial or class that could causing feelings. Then we will go through strategies that you can apply right now as well as training solutions to help make things easier and less feelings-inducing for your dog!

Some of you may have heard of “Premack’s Principle” (also called “The Premack Principle”). Dogs are generally uncomfortable when we leave them. Especially in the ring when they are surrounded by pressure and distractions. Most errors occur because the dog wants to escape the pressure. The result is a dog that is alert, engaged and confident both when we walk away and when we turn and face them. Whether you are teaching distance exercises, or your dog struggles with them, this webinar will provide you with strategies to build your dog’s confidence with distance work.
