Growing Up FDSA - Free Ebook

Course Details

3 WEEK CLASS - It's time to get a handle on mouth handling and dental care with your dog! We all know that we should be taking care of our dogs’ teeth, but our canine companions don’t always make that an easy task. This course will help you and your dog develop comfortable approaches to all sorts of mouth handling and procedures.

We will break our mouth work down into six key areas:

  1. Outside mouth/muzzle handling
  2. Inside mouth handling
  3. Teeth
  4. Toothbrush or dental wipes
  5. Toothpaste
  6. Brushing/cleaning

As with all our work, our goal is for dogs to be comfortable enough to tolerate necessary physical care. While they might not love everything we have to do, there are cooperative approaches that can mitigate stress and discomfort.

Our ultimate goal is to provide essential physical care while protecting your dog's emotional stability. To achieve this, we take a systematic, step-by-step approach using positive reinforcement and classical conditioning techniques as the basis of our work.

Teaching Approach:

The class material for this course will be presented in a video format (webinar style).  Written transcripts of the videos will be provided.   At the end of each video lesson you will be given specific homework goals.

Teaching Assistant:

This course will have a teaching assistant (TA).  Ally will be available in the Discussion Forum for Silver & Bronze students to answer questions and review videos.
