A3002: Dynamic Running Dog Walks: From Mat to Plank

    Course Details

3 WEEK CLASS - Are you looking to train an independent running dog walk performance? From confident and fast straight exits to clear and proofed turns? We will be laying the groundwork for just that in this three-week class!

Throughout the first two weeks, we will be building up the strong mat foundation that you will need for a smooth and stress-free dog walk journey. We will be focusing on building value for the mat, targeting the mat from all angles and approaches, targeting the mat with speed (dog & handler), independent targeting, targeting in various environments/proofing, and turns fully independent of position.

In the third week, we will be taking that foundation and learning how to apply all aspects to a plank on the ground.

By the time you finish this class, you will be ready to tackle the full dog walk with ease!

This class is appropriate for those who are just beginning their running dog walk training as well as those who are looking to improve just certain aspects of their performance, like turns!

    Teaching Approach:

Lectures will be released at the top of each week. They will be a combination of written instruction and video demos.

Feedback will consist of written feedback and screenshots with specific timestamps as applicable.

Check ins to forums will occur twice a day to keep the flow going and to make sure we can get the most out of our three weeks for those enrolled at gold and silver.

A Teacher’s Assistant (TA) will be available to support Bronze students. Directions for participating in the Bronze Student Forum will be provided in the classroom after registration.

    Prerequisites and Equipment

For the first two weeks, you will need:

    • A secure and grippy mat (that you will eventually apply to the dog walk)
      • My two favorite mats:
        • https://www.nonsliprcmats.com/products/non-slip-rc-mat
      • You can also make your own out of a shelf line or another grippy surface wrapped around a piece of yoga mat with anti-slip tape strips attached to the bottom.
    • One or two exercise dots or something similar. Just make sure that whatever you use is grippy and not slippery. These are my preference: https://tinyurl.com/bddxnfe4

For week three, you can use any type of safe plank on the ground to which you can apply your mat. Optionally, you can also use a skinny runner rug in place of a plank

The first two weeks need very minimal space! The only requirement is a non-slippery floor. The third week will require enough space for a plank (any size) or a skinny runner rug.

This class is good for teams of all levels!
